Configuration

This chapter explains how to perform the initial configuration and also how to make additional
configuration of each of the supported types of interfaces and services.
The following points relate to using configuration commands:
In the case of each command, it is possible to obtain command help at any point by pressing
!
the Tab key.
Parameters may have been assigned by default factory settings so that it may be unnecessary
!
to set new values. The show prefix displays the current parameter settings for each object of
the HL950.
Use the save command whenever you make changes. (When there are changes that need to
!
be saved, the prompt is enclosed by asterisks, for example, *LAB*>). Make sure you verify
your changes before you save them to non-volatile memory. If you save a faulty configuration
to non-volatile memory and your system fails (as systems with faulty configuration tend to
do), you may not be able to restart.
To commit data changes to non-volatile memory by means of the save command, you
!
typically do not need to stop the object, and then start it again. If an object needs to be
stopped and restarted, the system will prompt you to do so.

Initial Configuration

The initial configuration is performed from the LAN side using software and operator specific
configuration files provided on the Configuration CD included in the package.
The Configuration CD contains the following:
HL950 system configuration data with operator specific configuration data.
!
This Administrator's Guide.
!
Installation program, which includes a TFTP server, an RS232 terminal emulation program
!
capable of executing script files, and a script file with HL950 commands. The main function
of the script file is to initiate the LAN interface with a fixed IP address and to restore the
system configuration image using TFTP.
