5.2 Inspection and Cleaning

5.3 Cleaning Materials Required

Loma recommend that the system is washed down (using only an open water hose) using a mild
detergent and then thoroughly rinsed with clean water. A non-abrasive damp cloth must be
used to clean the screen.
If chemicals are used, they must not cause damage or harm to the materials used in the
manufacture of the system. The IQ3X Metal Detection System includes the following materials:
Grade 304 stainless steel (frame, enclosure and covers)
l
Stainless Steel bearing housing
l
If chlorinated fluids are used the following guidelines should be observed:
Follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter
Only use recommended concentrations
DO NOT exceed advised contact times - this will cause damage to the machine
DO NOT exceed temperature limits
ALWAYS rinse off chemicals thoroughly using clean fresh water, especially in areas
where there are natural crevices where chlorine can collect over time e.g. screw
heads, washers etc.
Dry the machine after rinsing using a low pressure air line or clean paper towels.
Increasing the contact time, temperature or concentration will accelerate any
chemical reaction
Do not inject water directly into or at any electrical components, the front screen or
any bearings, bushes or drives
NEVER wrap cleaning cloths around your hands while cleaning the system as it
could be pulled into the machine and cause injury.

5.4 Guidance for Cleaning the System

1. Either wash or wipe the system using a mild detergent solution and then rinse using clean
water.
2. Check that the air regulator unit water trap is clean and that the outlet is not blocked
3. Check that the reject mechanism successfully rejects a recognised bad product after
cleaning.
Under no circumstances is the reject valve to be disassembled or internally
inspected with the power sources still connected (electrical or pneumatic)
