2.1 Introduction

The PC 5170 flat screen PC contains a EMBEDDED motherboard. The motherboard is the
heart of any computer and is responsible for transmitting, receiving and processing data
as well as driving the different on-board devices. This chapter gives a brief introduction to
the EMBEDDED motherboard. For more complete details on the connectors and
the different implementations of the EMBEDDED, please refer to the EMBEDDED user
manual.

2.2 CPU Support

The EMBEDDED installed in the PC 5170 supports socket 478, Intel Pentium 4 / Pentium
M / Celeron M FSB 533 MHz CPU or on-board Intel Celeron M 1GHz zero cache CPU.

2.3 On-board Chipsets

2.3.1 Northbridge and Southbridge Chipsets

The following chipsets are preinstalled on the board:
34 Northbridge: Intel 852GM
35 Southbridge: ICH5
The following two sections (Section 2.3.2 and Section 2.3.3) list some of the features of
the 852GME and the ICH5 chipsets. For more information on these two chipsets please
refer to the Intel website.

2.3.2 852GME Northbridge Chipset

The 852GME northbridge chipset comes with the following features:
36 Supports the Intel Pentium 4 processor and Intel Celeron processor with Intel
NetBurst® microarchitecture
37 400 MHz or 533 MHz system bus delivers a high-bandwidth connection
between the processor and the platform
38 Integrated graphics utilizing Intel® Extreme Graphics 2 technology
39 AGP 4X support
40 Three USB host controllers support up to six USB 2.0 ports.
41 The latest AC '97 implementation delivers 20-bit audio for enhanced sound
