Glossary-2
Identifies the module located on the SSP interface Ethernet or SSP interface
console card that permits a connection to an alarm. The major and minor alarms
provide connection to normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) relay
contacts. When the Versalar 15000 logs certain fault event messages, such as
component failure, loss of power, or loss of signal, the alarm relay activates an
external visible or audible alarm.
Provides an ATM optical link-level interface, constant bit rate (CBR) service,
variable bit rate (VBR) service and unspecified bit rate (UBR) service. The
Versalar 15000 can support two ATP cards in slots 11 and 12 in the front of the
chassis.
Identifies a certain type of processor card. The Versalar 15000 supports three
kinds of CAP cards:
• M13 CAP card -- used for subrate T1 and T1 applications.
• M13/DS3 CAP card -- provides both T1 and high-speed access.
• DS3 CAP card -- provides high-speed access over DS3 lines.
Identifies the connector located on the SSP interface Ethernet card that supports a
10/100 Mb Ethernet interface.
Identifies the slot located on the SSP card that permits the installation of flash
memory cards.
Provides physical line interfaces for six T3 lines. The Versalar 15000 supports up
to five T3 interface cards in slots 1 to 5 in the back of the chassis.
Provides the link to the network by collecting data from the network, creating
frames, packets, or cells, and sending them to the processor cards for routing.
Also known as a PHY card, it receives data from the processor cards and sends it
to the network.
Identifies the card located in each empty interface card slot in the Versalar 15000.
It directs cool air to the adjacent interface card. Any time an interface card is
removed from the Versalar 15000 without an immediate replacement, an interface
filler card must be installed.
Provides layer 3 switching for the Versalar 15000. The Versalar 15000 can
support three IFP cards in the front of the unit in chassis slots 6 to 8.
Identifies the connector on the SSP card that allows a modem connection for
remote dial-in access to the Bay Command Console (BCC). The modem provides
the same functions as a locally attached console.
