Maintenance Method

When performing maintenance, always turn off the power, and take the appropriate measures to prevent static
electricity.
9.2.1.

Periodic Maintenance

To ensure long-term and stable printing, periodically clean the modules.
Periodic Maintenance of the Thermal Mechanism Module
• Maintenance Period:
• Maintenance Locations:
• Maintenance Method:
(1) Thermal Head Maintenance Method
To clean the thermal head heating elements, open the platen unit with the release lever and
wipe with a cotton swab dampened with an alcohol-based cleaner (such as ethanol or
methanol). Also, do not apply excessive force when doing so. Wipe the heating elements
gently. After cleaning, check that the alcohol has completely evaporated before closing the
platen unit.
(2) Platen Maintenance Method
Dampen a soft cloth with an alcohol-based solvent (such as ethanol or methanol) and wipe the
platen while slowly turning it.
Also, complete wipe away all of the paper dust on the rubber platen.
If the cleaning is incomplete, there may be problems in paper feeds.
Periodic Maintenance of the Presenter Module
• Maintenance Period:
Implement every 3 months or when performing maintenance on the thermal mechanism module.
• Maintenance Locations: (1) Detectors and the Surrounding Areas (2) PF Roller
• Maintenance Method: See the table below.
(1) Maintenance of the Detectors and Surrounding Areas
Clean away and paper dust or dirt and dust adhering to the detectors in the presenter.
Use a soft, dry cotton cloth, swab or brush to clean.
Also, do not apply excessive force when doing so.
(2) Maintenance of the PF Roller
Clean away and paper dust or dirt and dust adhering to the PF roller.
Use a soft cloth dampened with an alcohol-based solvent (ethanol, methanol, or isopropyl
alcohol) and wipe the PF roller while rotating it using the knob.
Completely clean away and dust and dirt adhering to the rubber.
9.2.2.

Handling Paper Jams

If paper should become jammed, open the platen unit and remove the jammed paper.
Never pull on the jammed paper unnecessary while the printer unit is closed because this can damage the drive
system parts. Fig. 9.2.2 shows the locations to operate (lever/knob) when paper becomes jammed.
Remove jammed paper according to the following procedures.
Procedure (1) Open the platen unit (including the presenter module) using the release lever.
Procedure (2) Rotate the knob to remove the jammed paper.
Procedure (3) Close the platen unit (including the presenter module).
Notes:
1.
When removing jammed paper, do not allow your hands to get near the auto-cutter blade
because it is dangerous.
Also, when opening or closing the rotating portions, be careful not to get your hands or
fingers caught.
2.
When the cutter blades are locked, do not forcefully rotate the platen unit (or the presenter
unit) because this can be the cause of machine failure.
See the following pages for releasing the cutter lock and opening the platen unit.
3.
Fig. 9.5.2 shows a schematic view of a model equipped with the presenter.
