8.4. Adjusting the Near-end Sensor Unit

It is necessary to adjust the near-end sensor unit to detect the remaining amount of roll paper.
To adjust the position of the near-end sensor unit, adjust the roll diameter direction that determines the adjustment
of the paper width to correspond to the roll paper width and the amount to detect of that paper.
See the adjustment method for each below to use this at the correct position.
8.4.1.

Adjusting in the Roll Paper Width Direction

Fig. 8.4.1.A and Fig. 8.4.1.B show the method for width direction adjustment for the near-end sensor.
Procedure (1) Loosen the screws fastening the near-end sensor in the width direction with the roll
paper you intend to use mounted in the printer.
Procedure (2) Move the near-end sensor holder (plastic part) toward the roll paper edge (moving
in the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. 8.4.2.B) and tighten the width direction mounting screw
of the near-end sensor unit at a position where the distance of the roll paper edge and sensor
holder is 2 to 4 mm.
Notes:
1.
To use the near-end sensor unit under more optimum conditions, it is necessary to adjust
the sensor sensitivity.
Refer to the sensor adjustment method described on another sheet to adjust the
sensitivity.
2.
Also, if the detection diameter of the roll sheet by the near-end sensor is unstable, adjust
the sensitivity of the near-end sensor.
3.
The near-end sensor is adjusted to the position corresponding to paper width of 82.5 mm
when the printer is shipped from the factory.
4.
Use the memory switches to set the near-end sensor on or off.
8.4.2.

Adjusting in the Roll Paper Diameter Direction

(1) For the Printer
Fig. 8.4.2.A shows the method for roll paper diameter direction adjustment for the near-end
sensor.
Procedure (1) Loosen the diameter direction mounting screws.
Procedure (2) After loosening the mounting screws, position scales shown in Fig. 84.2.A. and the
central position of the notches in the near-end sensor plate.
(1) Also, it is possible to set to the user's preferred amount of roll paper to detect, so adjust to the
most optimum position while checking operations.
(2) It is possible to support roll paper with paper core with inner diameters of Ø25.4 (1 inch), Ø50.8
(2 inches) and Ø76.2 (32 inches).
(3) Adjust the near-end sensor unit to the scale position for the paper core of the roll paper you
use. See the table below to make adjustments.

Notes:
1.
The near-end sensor is assembled to reference position 'a' when shipped from the factory.
2.
Assembly of the Large Roll Paper Holder Unit (RUH-T500)
The method to adjust the near-end sensor when using the optional large diameter roll
paper holder (RHU-T500), is basically the same as that used in method (1).
However, be aware that the difference in the setting position of the roll paper (the position
to mount the roll paper bushing) makes the adjustment position different.
