9. HANDLING THE PRINTER UNIT

9.1. How to Set the Roll Paper

Set the roll paper as shown in the following procedures.
Procedure (1) Open the printer unit and remove any paper that remains inside.
Notes:
1.
If paper remains inside when paper is fed, paper jams will occur.
Procedure (2) Open the frame for fastening the mechanism (mechanism and presenter).
(1) Hold the printer handle, as shown in Fig. 9.1.A, and open the frame for fastening the
mechanism.
Then, lift the handle toward the direction of the solid line arrow (the top of the apparatus) to
rotate it after releasing the frame lock (the direction of the broken line arrow). Set as shown in
Fig. 9.1.B.
Notes:
1.
When using a model not equipped with the presenter, and you open the frame for fasten-
ing the mechanism, replace the paper by rotating it all the way.
Procedure (3) Set the paper.
(1) Pull from the shaft while lightly pulling the roll paper holder bushing (plastic; green).
(2) Insert the roll paper holder unit to the paper core of the replacement roll paper. (Fig. 9.1.C)
(3) While lightly pulling the bushing (plastic, green) insert the roll paper holder pulled in procedure
(1) into the roll paper tube, then lastly lightly push the bushing (plastic, green). (Fig. 9.1.D)
(4) Set the roll paper so that the shaft of the roll paper holder mates with the printer frame bushing.
(Fig. 9.4.E.) At that time, be careful that the thermal side (printing side) is facing outside.
Procedure (4) Load the paper into the mechanism.
(1) After setting the roll paper into the printer unit, feed paper into the mechanism.
(2) Pass the leading edge of the sheet between the paper guide and damper rollers shown in Fig.
9.1.G and insert it directly into the paper inlet on the mechanism. At that time, to prevent poor
paper conveyance, pull the excess 200 mm of paper and set the paper so that it has some
slack.
(3) Push the paper further into the mechanism so that the paper motor automatically feeds the
paper inside.
Then, the system will automatically cut the paper and perform a top of form operation to
complete the setting of the paper.
(4) Remove the excess paper at the discharge outlet.
Also, if you detect that the paper skewed when automatically set, reset or fix the paper.
Notes:
1.
Then, cut the leading edge of the paper straight across, as shown in Fig. 9.4.F.
If the leading edge of the paper is not cut straight across, paper jams or skewing can oc-
cur when loaded into the mechanism. Also, if it is not straight, the sensor will not detect
the leading edge of the paper and the loading operation may not occur.
In such cases, cut the paper straight across and reset the roll paper.
2.
When using the printer with a layout that implements the optional large diameter roll paper
holder unit (RHU-T500), also load the paper to the mechanism with slack in the paper to be
set.
Procedure (5) Close the frame for fastening the mechanism (mechanism and presenter).
(1) After completing the setting of the roll paper, rotate the frame for fastening the mechanism in
the direction opposite to procedure 1, to securely lock it. At this time, it is dangerous to use the
apparatus without it being completely locked, so be very careful.
Notes:
1.
Also, when the frame for fastening the mechanism is closed, be careful not to get your
hands or fingers caught.
