HPE ProLiant e910 Server Blade Smart Component firmware updates
HPE makes updates available for download that allow for feature additions and fixes. Download the firmware from the HPE
website and execute the updates as described in the instructions. Remember to reboot after completing the updates. The
following ProLiant e910 Server Blade components can be updated:
CPLD
System ROM
iLO
Currently, only Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.6 is supported.
Updating firmware using a Smart Component in Linux
Smart Component updates allow your system to have the latest available features and fixes. The file may be packed in a rpm
file or be an scexe file.
Procedure
1. If needed, unpack the smart component executable (scexe) from the rpm file.
2. Change to the directory where the file is stored by entering the cd command:
All scexe files extracted from an rpm are placed at: cd /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/scexe-compat
Previously extracted scexe files are stored where they were placed when they were copied to the blade.
3. Make the scexe file executable by entering: chmod 777 CPxxxxx.scexe
4. Execute the file by entering: ./CPxxxxx.scexe
Follow any instructions that display.

Requirements for iSCSI targeting

The x722 Network Adapter on the ProLiant e910 server blade requires specific BIOS settings before the storage volume on
the blade can be designated as an iSCSI target.
For a successful RHEL installation on an iSCSI bootable volume:
Boot into the UEFI BIOS, and then configure the setting found at BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > Network
Options > iSCSI Configuration for iSCSI Initiator. This setting enables support for iSCSI Boot Firmware Table (iBFT).
Use the most recent Anaconda RHEL installer to add the storage volume as an iSCSI target.
For detailed information about using the Anaconda installer and iBFT restrictions, see https://access.redhat.com/
documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/installation_guide/appe-iscsi-disks.
