6.4 Inspection and maintenance schedule

ARNING
Inspections, checks and maintenance operations
are to be carried out by expert and authorised
personnel. All necessary steps must be taken to
ensure safe working before commencing any
inspections, checks and maintenance operations.
For the advised maintenance schedule, see par. 6.2.2.
In addition, the following interval applies to switchgear with
a protected panel:
Periodic check of vacuum circuit-breaker and
protection relay:
once every 3 years.
6.4.1

Periodic checks

1.
Carry out visual inspection, checking:
 for dirt, dust and moisture;
 for any discharge phenomena, such as ozone air;
 crackling and visible discharges;
 for loose or discoloured wiring;
 core end terminations/terminal strips;
 for loose plates/mounting material;
 for exceptional wear.
After the switchgear has been isolated and safely earthed:

Remove dust and dirt (if possible, use a hand brush).

Check the surface condition of the switch caps.
4.
If necessary, clean with a dry cloth.
5.
Remove any black deposits from silver-plated contacts
by mild scouring with a scouring pad, and slightly
grease contacts using acid-free Vaseline.

Check the overcurrent indicators.
7.
Check the grease level in the cable box.

Periodic check of protected panel

1.
Carry out the checks described under Periodic check.
2.
Check the switch and interlocks for proper operation.
3.
Check the protection relays in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions.
4.
Check the switches: switches that are rarely if ever
used must be switched on and off 10 times.
Switching off is preferably done with the protection
relay which is connected to a relay test kit.

Maintenance

Maintenance of the various switchgear components
requires special tools in addition to the spare parts
required. You will find detailed instructions in the manual
contained in the maintenance kit.
1.
Carry out the checks described under periodic checks.
2.
Apply a test voltage to the primary circuit.
Remove all special safety provisions on completion of the
maintenance operations. Then put the installation into
normal operation.
