NFPA Fire Application Note
Cellular sole path communications with supplementary Ethernet communications
When cellular communications are configured under NFPA 72 (2010 - 2016) requirements for
a single communication technology, Ethernet can be used as a supplementary communication
path without requiring the secondary power capacity requirements on the protected premises
network equipment, where acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction. This makes it
possible for fire signals to be transmitted over Ethernet to the central monitoring station
when cellular communications are disrupted.
To enable encryption for IP network communications, refer to the AES Encryption parameters
in Primary Receiver, page 60 and Secondary Receiver, page 63.
