Authorizing the Device

8.2.1 About Authorization

As a security measure, the EC2000 is shipped in the Deauthorized state, meaning personalization
features are not available. When deauthorized, the
stating "Error Machine is Deauthorized." Contact MagTek Support Services to obtain default passwords
and for instructions to authorize the device (see section 8.4 Passwords for more information).
Every 24 hours after the EC2000 is authorized, the device will automatically attempt to connect to
MagTek's Certificate Authority (CA) to re-authorize. This requires the device to be powered on and
connected to the Internet [see section 8.1 Network (TCP/IP) Configuration].
If re-authorization does not occur within 7 days, the EC2000 will stop issuing personalized cards until it
is able to connect to the CA and re-authorize its security certificate. The device will continue to create
sample cards even when deauthorized.
The time remaining until the next required re-authorization can be viewed using the
button on the
page (see section 6.3.3 About the Help Page). In some circumstances (for example,

if a lengthy power or network outage has caused the EC2000 to deauthorize and the automatic re-
authorization will not happen soon enough), it may be necessary to re-authorize the EC2000 manually.
