MODEM 32144
3.4 Options
The rest of this chapter describes
the options available from the
modem front panel. The options
are presented in the same order in
which they appear in the LCD flow
chart (which is shipped with the
modem). For each option, all
possible choices (available
selections) are explained.
The line below each option
heading indicates the applicability
of the option: A mode (like Quick
Setup mode) is listed only if the
option is effective in that mode and
if it can be of practical use in that
mode.
For a concise summary of the
modem options and option
choices, see the LCD flow chart.
The default settings for each
option are listed in Appendixes A
and B.
Quick Setups
All modes
The Quick Setups (one for each
operating mode) are unique in
that they affect the entire modem
configuration. See Chapter 2 and
Appendix A.
Line Type
All modes
2W-D. This selection (2-wire dial
line) is used for dialup
applications.
44
2W-LL. This selection (2-wire
leased line) is used for leased line
applications that use 2-wire lines.
4W-LL. This selection (4-wire
leased line) is for leased line
applications that use 4-wire lines.
3.5 Speed (Data Rate) Options
Speed Limit
All modes
The Speed Limit option allows
you to set a minimum and/or
maximum data rate. The modem
will automatically operate at the
highest possible data rate within
the limits selected, as indicated in
Table 3-1. (In Hayes mode, the
maximum rate of the originate
modem is determined by the
originate modem's DTE autobaud
rate. See Table 3-1.)
EIA-23. This choice is available for
setting the maximum rate only. If
EIA-23 is selected, the rate will be
set at either 9600 or 4800 bps,
depending on the condition of pin
23 on the EIA interface: Pin 23
high (greater than or equal to +3
volts) = 9600 bps; pin 23 low (less
than or equal to –3 volts) = 4800
bps.
