Glossary

Aperture Diameter of the lens opening that limits the
amount of light entering the camera
CCD Charge coupled device that converts a photoelectric
signal into electronic data
CCD Camera Camera with CCD sensor used to capture
moving and still images
Chemiluminescence (Chemi) mode Captures image of
sample-emitted luminescent as well as sample image
under epi-white light
Display Saturation Displays red-painted image pixels if pixel
intensity reaches a value near saturation
Emission filter Optical glass filter mounted in the Filter
Wheel; used for filtering specific wavelengths of light
Filter Wheel Automated wheel that can hold multiple filters
in front of camera lens
Gallery Holding space for captured images
Hard (Main) Power Switch Main power rocker switch
located on the rear imager panel
Lens Optical device that controls light transmission
Noise Imperfections in the image data
Plug-and-play Ability of a computer system to automatically
configure and operate other connected devices
Remote Access Imager access by technical support to a
remote location
Reset Returns camera settings to the standard or home
value

Resolution Sharpness and clarity of an image; defined by
the number of camera pixels used to capture an image
Sample screens The clear, black and white panels placed
over the transilluminator during image acquisition
Sensitivity CCD camera's degree of response to light
Soft Power Switch Blue-lit round button located on the front
imager panel
Stylus Pen-shaped device used to input commands on the
touchscreen
Transilluminator Sliding sample work platform containing
the UV bulbs
Ultraviolet (UV) mode Captures images using transmitted
ultraviolet light
Visible (Vis) mode Captures image using transmitted light
and/or reflected visible light
