in this case each on'e o n its own.
Various terms are employed to describe the Clutch parts by different people,
but in this W o r k s they are described as follows
:-
First t h e w i s t h e flywheel; next t o it the pressur,e p l a t e ; next to that the
floating plate, and behind this the clutch cover plate.
Th'e driving plate is made of steel, and is a sliding fit o n the front e n d
extension of t h e G e a r Box shaft. T h e clutch cover plate and the pressure
'plate are each fitted with F e r o d o discs, t h e ferodo being attached by means
of rivets suitably countersunk.
T h e r e are six clutch springs which fit into
recessed c u p s 8 0 n the.flywheel side of t h e pressure plate, and the flywheel is
fitted with six register pins that pass through slots in the pressure plate, and
when the whole clutch is bolted u p register through hol'es in the clutch
cover plat'e. These ~ j i n s a r e shown in Illustrations Nos.

I t stands t o reason that when the clutch is bolted u p solid as shown in
1llustrati.on N o .

that the pressure of the springs will force the pressure
plate into contact with t h e floating plat'e, and grip the latter b,etween the
pressure$latp:and
the clutch cov'er plate.
It is 'essential that the ferodo rings
must b e free from any lubricant so that they can work effectively, and o n e
can visualise,jhat l'etting in th'e clutch with a jerk may rough up t h e friction
f a c e s Alternatively, by letting t h e clutch continually slip, t h e centre plate
will become overheat'ed, which will in turn have a detrim'ental effect o n the
clutch surfaces.

I n order t o effect the disengagement of t h e clutch,
it is necessary to force t h e pressure plate o u t of engagement with the floating
