until the best setting is found.
It
is important that the two Hartfords o n the
same axle be equally adjusted, and the!: nlust o n no account be lubricated at
any point.
Ignition. Little instruction need be given o n this subj'ect.
T h e High Tension distributor is very accessible.
I t
is provided with a
greaser to lubricate the spindle, and only high melting point grease should be
e n ~ p l o y e d , o n e turn every thousand miles being sufficient.
T h e contacts can be inspected by unclipping the two springs when the
cover carrying the High Tension Leads can be removed.
T h e ignition
timing should be set so that when a piston is o n top dead centre the points
of the make and break just start to oper, with the distributor at full retard.
T h e points may require adjustment from time to time, and a spanner is
provided with the Tool
Kit
for this purpose.
T h e clearance between the
points should be 1.5-20/1000 of an inch.

centre spindle of the High Tension distributor carries a

" Arm
called the

Rotor
" in the illustration.

If
this part is removed, i t affords an 'excellent thief proof device, but
care should be exercised to see that it does not become chipped o r in any way
damaged, not to mention lost after it has been r'emoved. T h e ends of the
High Tension Wires are soldered to brass discs in order to make good contact
with the terminals inside the cover.
See that the terminal screws are always
tight.
