coincide, a n d rotate t h e engine by t h e starting handle until n u m b e r s o n e a n d
f o u r a r e a t t h e very t o p of their stroke, with t h e metal electrode o n t h e
distributor rotating a r m pointing towards N o .

its position relative t o this stud noted.
T h a t tlie pistons a r e exactly at t h e
t o p of their travel can b e ascertained by removing t h e rectangular plate o n
t h e clutch housing (just in front of t h e gear lever), wh,en a m a r k will b e f o u n d
o n th,e f a c e of t h e flywheel, bearing t h e n u m b e r s

exactly in t h e centre of t h e o p e n i n g in t h e clutch housing.

H a v i n g m a d e s u r e that t h e pistons a n d camshaft a r e in their correct
positions, t h e hend may be lowered i n t o position o n t o t h e cylinder block.
T h e two holes in t h e flexible c o u p l i n g should now a l n ~ o s t coincide with those
o n t h e drive y o k e of t h e d y n a m o (see Illustration N o .
21).
Replace t h e ten
cylinder head nuts a n d tighten t h e m u p in t h e rotation indicated in
Illustration N o .

giving each a q u a r t e r of

t u r n a t a t i m e until all a r e
tight.
T h e flexible c o u p l i n g bolts should now b e replaced, as should t h e oil
pipes, exhaust a n d water manifolds, carburetters, controls, petrol pipe,
windscreen wiper tubing, sparking plugs, high tension cables, a n d t h e valve
cov'er. W h e n replacing t h e oil p i p e o n t h e left hand side of the head, m a k e
s u r e that t h e oil restrictor pin is in place 2nd that it is clean (see Illustration
N o .
