DO use the gears freely, particularly o n hills and when
accelerating after corners, in traffic, etc.
DO free the engine by hand when cold before using the
starter.
Do avoid

DO retard the ignition before starting the engin'e.
Do read this Manual thoroughly a n d carefully a n d follow o u t
the instructions laid down.

DO always quote model, year, engine a n d chassis numbers

This is vary important.
Do not allow the engine t o

pink."
DO not slip the clutch except when actually starting off o r
changing g e a r ; change down in traffic, t o bottom gear
if necessary.
Do not subject the tyres to glancing blows from the kerb when
drawing u p beside the p a v e m e n t ; this may interfere
with wheel alignment and have a serious effect o n
steering and tyre life.
Do not lean o n o p e n doors.
DO not under any circumstances allow the oil level to fall
below half full; it is best t o keep it always u p to three-
quarters a t least.
Do not mix different brands of oil in the sump.
DO not race the engine when it is c o l d ; this will shorten con-
sid,erably the life of pistons a n d bearings, a n d may even
result in piston seizure. At the same tim,e d o not
allow it t o idle, this is equally injurious. Th'e best
warming up speed is
1,000
r.p.m.
Do not allow the engine t o labour.
DO not forget t o t o p up t h e batt'ery regularly.
Do not forget to turn the petrol tap back t o the main position
aft,er refilling t h e tank.

DO not r u n the engine with t h e c k i x t u r e control in the rich

position longer than n e c e i s y y .
Do not leave the headlamps alight when the car is stationary
at night; this drains t h e battery unnecessarily and is
very discourteous t o o t h e r road users.
DO not try to improveq+our car's performance by altering the
ignition timing& interfering in any way with standard
settings and adjustments. T h e makers know best.
Do not forget t o lubricate clutch thrust.
