pressing the spanner handle tlownw:~rtls until the clearance does close.
Replacing the Cylinder Head. LVhen n l l the vatve clearances h a l e been
correctly adjusted, the c ! lintler lie:~d is ready for replacement.
It is first
of
all necessary to thoroughly clean the gasket and remove
nny
carbon deposit
adhering to its edges, and to coat hoth sides of
i t with an even film of Castille
soap.
If
the gasket has been in any w:~y dani:[ged during the removal of the
cylinder head, do not :~ttempt to use i t
again, but immedintely procure

new
one.
See that a n ) ncw gasket doeh not
burr
up a r o ~ ~ n d the stud holes and
that the cylinder bore openings are clear of the cylinder bore themselves.
T h e gasket can then be located over thc studs i n the cylinder block and gently
pushed into position on to the llpper face of the cylinder block.
I t
will be
found convenient to use
a short length of tuhing
( 3
box sp:lnner does quite
well) over the studs to p11sI1 the gasket in position.
This should be done
very gently, taking care to keep the gasket p:~rallel w i ~ h the cylinder head and
not to force one end o r one side down before the other.
