You can modify many of the RPR-IEEE protection characteristics with the procedures in the following
sections.
Configuring the Hold-off Timer
You can delay the protection response to a failure event, such as a signal failure or signal degradation,
with the hold-off timer. Setting a longer timer can help avoid link errors that last long enough for
detection, but do not last long enough to warrant the costs of protecting the span. This delay can result
in higher traffic loss, however. The default value for this timer is 0 milliseconds.
