Event Triggered Backup

The Compact Flash card is required to store backup data on iSTAR ex.
When an event-triggered backup is executed, processes are suspended.
The older copy of the data on the Compact Flash card is selected, deleted,
and then re-written with the current data.
An activity report is sent to the host on start and completion of event-
triggered backup.
iSTAR eX maintains the last two backups.

iSTAR eX Backup and Real Time Clock

Even if data has been successfully written to Compact Flash, the data cannot
be restored unless iSTAR eX knows what time it is. Without knowing the
correct time, people could be rejected and admitted at the wrong times, or
front doors could open at midnight because the controller thinks it is 9A.M.
iSTAR eX GCM has an onboard coin-cell lithium battery that will keep the
"Real Time Clock" alive in the absence of AC power or battery power for up
to six days.
iSTAR eX checks the Real Time Clock on start up. If it determines that the Real
Time Clock lost power, data will not be restored.

Standard Model with Power Supply and Battery

iSTAR eX uses three signals to respond to changes in power availability: AC
Fail, Battery Low, and Backup Now. These conditions are monitored by and the
signals originate in the ESD power supply.
AC Fail – tells iSTAR eX that main power has failed. iSTAR eX uses this
signal to determine whether to turn on the LCD backlight. If AC has
failed, iSTAR eX turns off the LCD backlight, which saves approximately
100 mA of current. Additionally, this signal exists as a C•CURE input, so
it can be configured to activate events or outputs, and its state changes are
reported to the host.
