Preparing for an Installation

Most internal installation procedures involve either the memory or system board.
Installing components onto these boards may require the following preparatory tasks:

Powering down the server

Locating and removing the Torx T-15 tool
Extending the server from the rack
Opening and removing the access panels
Powering Down the Server
To install non-hot-plug options, you must first remove all power from the system. To
power down the server:
1. Back up the server data.
NOTE: In a new server, it is only necessary to back up data after installation and
configuration is complete.
2. Shut down the operating system as directed in the operating system instructions.
3. If the server is on, press the Power On/Standby button. The front Power
On/Standby button LED turns amber.
4. Disconnect all power cords.
5. Disconnect any other external equipment connected to the computer.
The system is now without power, and you can safely proceed with the installation of
your hardware options.
