The Smart Array 5i Plus Controller is an embedded hardware RAID controller that
ships standard on all ProLiant DL580 Generation 2 servers. When configured with
the Battery-Backed Write Cache Enabler (BBWCE), the controller provides
transportable data protection and increased performance.
Smart Array 5i Plus controller
Features of the Smart Array 5i Plus controller include:
— Dual Wide Ultra3 SCSI channels
— Maximum data transfer of 160 MB/s on each SCSI channel
— RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 5
— 64-MB total memory for code, transfer buffers, and read/write cache
— 64-MB memory is located on the 5i Plus Memory Module that connects
directly to the system board
— Battery connector for connection to the BBWCE
— Support for the HP universal hot-plug tape drive
Battery-Backed Write Cache Enabler (BBWCE)
Features of the BBWCE include:
— Protects against hard boot, power, controller, or system board failures
— Provides up to 64-MB write cache memory protection (cache memory
located on the 5i Plus Memory Module)
— Fully transportable to another ProLiant DL580 Generation 2 server in the
data center
NOTE: In order to easily transport protected cache data to another ProLiant DL580
Generation 2 server, remove the BBWCE and the 5i Plus Memory Module simultaneously.
The BBWCE and 5i Plus Memory Module are connected to each other using a short
cable.
— Battery charge up to 72 hours
— Battery life up to 3 years
— Available as standard on most models of the ProLiant DL580 Generation 2
server
