Chapter 9 Operation and Maintenance
When an Event Log Is Detected at Startup (in Array Configuration with the
Onboard SCSI Controller)
When you configure a disk array with the onboard SCSI controller and use Windows Server 2003 or
Windows 2000 Server as the domain controller, the following warning message may be logged in the OS
event log at the startup.
Event Type:
Event Source:
Description:
For the logical drive configured with the onboard SCSI controller, the write cache is always disabled and
never enabled. Thus, the cache configuration for the logical drive is not detected correctly and the above
message is entered in the event log.
There are no problems for the system operation and the data will not be damaged. Ignore the event log.
Error Message Appears When Using the SCSI Array Controller
In a Windows environment with Global Array Manager (GAM), the following error message may be
recorded in the application log at the start of Windows, accompanied by pop-up windows.
Source
Type
Event ID
Description: Faulting application Gamdrv.exe, version 0.0.0.0, ...
Gamdrv and Gamscm are modules included in the GAM service. This error is caused by a failure to start
the service possibly due to a high CPU load.
Upon occurrence of this error, the system automatically attempts to restart the two services listed below.
Therefore, you can disregard this message. Close the pop-up window by clicking [Don't Send] or [Close
Message].
• Mylex Global Array Manager Server
• SNMP Service
■ Trouble at a ServerStart Startup
After a boot from the ServerStart CD-ROM, nothing is displayed on the
screen.
This problem may occur if the hard disk drive still contains previous information. In that case, this
problem will still occur when the Windows Server 2003 Installation CD-ROM is inserted.
To eliminate this problem, physically format the hard disk drive to delete the previous information and
start up ServerStart. For physical formatting, refer to "8.3.7 Formatting Hard Disks Physically"
( Pg.246) and the manual which comes with the SCSI array controller card.
