USAGE INSTRUCTIONS

Adherence to the following points is important for the continued functioning of the precision components comprising your Stella
reel.

Precautions for Use

• Mount your Stella reel on the rod you intend to use it with first to ensure compatibility and resolve any problems before they
occur at the angling site.
• If the line becomes snagged while fishing, do not try to forcibly free it using the rod or reel, but instead protect your hands with
a towel, etc., then pull in the line, leaving as little line as possible behind at the angling site.
• Treat your Stella reel with care. When in transit, especially by on the water, do not allow the reel to be tossed around or be
damaged by contact with other tackle, etc., carried in the same bag.
• If securing the rod in a an upright position when surf fishing, do so gently so as not place undue strain on the reel leg such as by
driving the butt cap into the sand as this could cause the reel leg to snap off.
• Do not allow the reel to become immersed in water either when fishing or caring for the reel as it is not designed to withstand
such treatment. If water should get inside the reel as a result of immersion in water, refer to the points listed under Basic
Maintenance for Use in Saltwater Environments. Do not unnecessarily dismantle the reel as doing so may damage or impair
performance of sealed components.
• Never apply grease to the roller bearing section inside the rotor. Grease may adversely affect roller performance and cause the
stopper to fail.
• Storage in high temperature, high humidity environments over long periods of time may cause deformation or weakening of
material strength. When storing for extended periods of time, store in a well-ventilated place after performing the procedures
listed under BASIC MAINTENANCE FOR USE IN SALTWATER ENVIRONMENTS.
• When performing disassembly or repair yourself, be careful to avoid finger injuries due to sharp edges, etc.
• Please note!
*Reel performance is affected not only by frequency of use but also factors such as the environment in which the reel is used,
the manner in which it is used, and the type fish it is used to catch.
*Do not leave the reel immersed in water for hours at a time as this will wash away grease used to lubricate the drag.
*Do not leave the reel mounted on the rod after fishing. Remove the reel and rinse it off with water. If the reel is rinsed off while
mounted on the rod, seawater that has accumulated in the reel seat hood and the reel leg will often remain even after rinsing.
*Anti-rust ball bearings (A-RB) used in your reel are designed to be corrosion resistant for use in high salinity environments. They
do not protect against seizing due to salt build-up resulting from saltwater getting inside bearings.
• Bearing Seizure Due to Salt Build-Up
Failure to perform regular care and maintenance can result in a build-up of salt residue inside ball bearings which, when dry, can
cause ball bearings to seize. Though not the result of rust, similar symptoms such rolling or grinding sounds can occur as a result
of salt residue build-up. Once the salt has dried, it is almost impossible to wipe away. Even with the use of A-RB ball bearings, in
such cases the only complete fix for the problem is to replace the old ball bearings with new ones.
