Problem: The library robot failed to move a tape cartridge. The tape cartridge must be manually recovered
before operations can continue.
1
Open the main access door(s) and find the tape cartridge. The tape may be stranded between the picker
assembly and the source or destination of the move.
2
Recover the tape cartridge and inspect it for damage. Damaged tape cartridges can cause failed move
media operations.
3
Inspect the source and destination slots for any damage or foreign material that could cause an
obstruction. Remove any foreign material from the slot.
4
Close the main access doors and wait for the system to complete initialization.
5
Make sure the partitions are online and continue your normal library operations.
6
Close the ticket and monitor for recurrence of the problem.
7
Admin users can use the Tools > Diagnostics > Robotics > Get/Put Test to determine that the
robotics are functioning properly or whether the issue repeats. Service users can use the Service >
System > Robotics test to further verify that the Robotics is functioning properly.
8
If the problem occurs again when initiating the next move operation, or the problem becomes chronic,
contact Service for a likely hardware replacement.
9
You have three options:
a. Select Close to close the ticket now.
b. Select Exit to leave the ticket open for future troubleshooting.
c. Select Back to return to the Diagnostic Resolution.
DR003 - Resolve Drive Eject Failure
This DR provides customer resolution steps for:
Problem: The library received a request to unload and eject a tape cartridge from a tape drive, but the drive
reported an unload failure.
1
View the ticket details to determine which drive failed the unload operation.
2
Consult the user documentation to issue a drive unload or move command to attempt another drive
unload operation.
3
If the requested command succeeds, observe for recurrence of this issue, and contact Service if the
issue repeats.
4
If the requested command fails, open the library main access door(s) and press the tape cartridge eject
button on the front of the drive to initiate a tape cartridge eject operation. Press and hold the button
continuously for 10 seconds. If the tape cartridge is ejected, leave the tape cartridge in the tape drive,
close the library access door(s) and continue operation. Observe for recurrence of this issue, and
contact Service if the issue repeats.
5
If the drive fails to unload and eject the tape cartridge, contact Service for assistance.
