CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE EXHAUST
GAS AT IDLE
(Measuring the exhaust gas at idle [when the air
induction system does not operate])
1. Stand the motorcycle on a level surface.
NOTE:
S Place the motorcycle on a suitable stand.
S Make sure the motorcycle is upright.
2. Remove:
S rider seat
Refer to "SEAT".
S fuel tank
Refer to "FUEL TANK".
S air filter case
Refer to "AIR FILTER CASE".
S exhaust pipe bolts 1
3. Install:
S pocket tester 1
(onto the engine oil drain bolt)
S engine tachometer
(onto the spark plug lead of cylinder #1)
S exhaust attachment 2
(onto the exhaust pipe)
Pocket tester

Engine tachometer

Exhaust attachment

4. Stop air induction system operation.
NOTE:
Crimp the hose a running from the lead valve to
the air cut-off valve to prevent the air cut-off
valve from operating.
Make sure not to damage the hose while crimp-
ing it.
