ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE

ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE
The following procedure applies to all of the
valves.
NOTE:
S Valve clearance adjustment should be made
on a cold engine, at room temperature.
S When the valve clearance is to be measured or
adjusted, the piston must be at top dead center
(TDC) on the compression stroke.
1. Remove:
S seat
Refer to "SEAT".
S side cowlings
Refer to "FRONT COWLINGS".
S fuel tank
Refer to "FUEL TANK".
S air filter case
Refer to "AIR FILTER CASE".
2. Remove:
S air cut-off valve
Refer to "AIR CUT-OFF VALVE AND REED
VALVE" in chapter 7.
3. Drain:
S coolant
Refer to "CHANGING THE COOLANT".
4. Remove:
S radiator
Refer to "RADIATOR" in chapter 6.
S thermostat assembly
Refer to "RADIATOR" in chapter 6.
5. Remove:
S cylinder head cover
Refer to "CYLINDER HEAD COVER" in
chapter 5.
S timing plug 1
S straight plug 2
6. Measure:
S valve clearance
Out of specification ! Adjust.
Valve clearance (cold)
Intake valve
0.15 X 0.20 mm
Exhaust valve
0.23 X 0.28 mm
