6.
Carefully lift off the cable spool cover. Remove the white spacing washer above the spooler plate
(see Figure 8-12).
7.
Cut the tie-wrap holding the interface harness to the cable spool plate. This tie-wrap is visible in
Figure 8-13. Do not remove the two spacers rising up from the azimuth gear. Remove the two screws
holding the spooler plate (drawing 70909049, item 35 on page 47) to the two spacers.
8.
Remove the old interface harness up through the cable spool. Pull the cable up through the hole. It may
be necessary to cut off the SMA connector and other connectors to extract the RF cable up through the
casting. Cut off any tie-wraps before pulling the cable into the hole.
9.
Push the new interface harness down through the center of the spindle. Work it through the holes to
the outside edge of the spindle. Feed the SMA connector through holes first.
10. Replace the two tie-wraps on the heat-shrink tube where the cable comes out of the lower hole in
the spindle.
11. Turn the azimuth post fully COUNTERCLOCKWISE until it reaches its stop (it will be at 90 degrees)
(see Figure 8-13).
12. Lay the interface harness coming out of the cable spool over the lower right corner of the PCU.
13. Place the cable spool plate back in the cable spool. Align the holes in the spool plate and the spacers
and secure the spool plate. Tie-wrap the harness to the spool plate spacer (drawing 70952, item 15 on
page 148). See Figure 8-13.
14. Loosely wrap the interface harness in the cable spool, going one and one half turns in a clockwise
direction. See Figure 8-13.
15. Bring the interface cable out of the cable spool cover hole next to the PCU and loosely tie-wrap it to the
cable spool cover.
16. Replace the cover on the cable spool and secure it with the screw, top washer, and internal white spacer.
See Figure 8-13: these parts are loose in the front of the picture.
17. Attach the cable clamp (drawing 70909049, item 30, on page 47) to the harness (between the cable ties)
at the outlet hole of the cable spool. Cinch the tie-wrap on the cable spool cover. Rotate the antenna
through 540 degrees of motion. The antenna will point to 270 degrees. The antenna should move
smoothly without resistance. Repeat the full range of motion of the antenna several times.
18. Replace the tie-wraps holding the harness to the unit.
19. Attach the connectors at the PCU and at the power injector. If this antenna is L&S-band, attach the
MS connector to the feed (see drawing 70909040 on page 170).
20. The interface harness can be joined to the MS connector J3 on drawing 7096105 in two ways.
a.
If the MS connector is being replaced, slide the wiring clamp over the interface harness and insert
the 422 pins into the MS connector. See drawing 7096105 on pages 63 to 65. It will be necessary to
solder the interface harness to the power wires going to connectors J6 and J7. Assemble the clamp
on the MS connector and tighten the clamp to secure the interface wire harness.
b. If the MS connector is being reused, solder the 8 wires in the interface harness to the 8 wires coming
out of the MS connector.
