Occupant safety
You should only use seat covers that
#
have been approved for the correspond‐
ing seats by Mercedes-Benz.
& WARNING Risk of injury due to malfunc‐
tions of the sensors in the door panelling
Sensors to control the airbags are located in
the doors. Modifications or work not per‐
formed correctly to the doors or door panel‐
ling, as well as damaged doors, can lead to
the function of the sensors being impaired.
The airbags might therefore not function
properly any more.
Consequently, the airbags cannot protect
vehicle occupants as they are designed to
do.
Never modify the doors or parts of the
#
doors.
Always have work on the doors or door
#
panelling carried out at a qualified spe‐
cialist workshop.
& WARNING Risk of injury due to deployed
airbag
A deployed airbag no longer offers any pro‐
tection and cannot provide the intended pro‐
tective function in the event of an accident.
Have the vehicle towed to a qualified
#
specialist workshop in order to have the
deployed airbag replaced.
Have deployed airbags replaced immediately.
Status of the front passenger airbags
Function of the automatic front passenger
front airbag deactivation system
The automatic front passenger front airbag deac‐
tivation system is able to detect whether the
front passenger seat is occupied by a person or
a child restraint system. The front passenger
front airbag is enabled or disabled accordingly.
When fitting a child restraint system to the front
passenger seat, always make sure of the follow‐
ing:
Ensure that the child restraint system is posi‐
R
tioned correctly (
page 55).
Always observe the child restraint system
R
manufacturer's installation instructions.
Never place objects, e.g. cushions, under or
R
behind the child restraint system.
Fully retract the seat cushion length adjust‐
R
ment.
The entire base of the child restraint system
R
must always rest on the sitting surface of the
front passenger seat.
The backrest of the forward-facing child
R
restraint system must, as far as possible, be
resting on the seat backrest of the front
passenger seat.
The child restraint system must not touch the
R
roof or be put under strain by the head
restraints. Adjust the seat backrest inclina‐
tion and the head restraint setting accord‐
ingly.
