3.6 Motor protection
Idle time
The idle time is the time specified for cooling after tripping under normal operating
conditions; that is, not in the case of overload tripping.
Once this time has expired, the thermal memory of the motor starter is deleted. A cold restart
can be carried out.
This means that, with the drive dimensioning adjusted as appropriate, a higher number of
starting operations can be performed without exceeding the trip limit of the motor model.
Note
A higher number of starting operations results in increased motor heating. If the motor
dimensioning has not been adapted (temperature class), motor protection is no longer
guaranteed.
The diagram below illustrates cooling with and without idle time.

Motor heating > 50%: After the idle time has expired, the save value of the motor model is
reduced to 50%.
Motor heating < 50%: After the idle time has expired, the save value of the motor model is
reduced to 0%.
