timing. The pump efficiency may be affected if the teeth are not installed in
the same position during assembly. Keep the parts for each pump section
together; do not mix the parts between sections.
8. Clean all the parts. Check all the components for burrs, scoring, nicks, and
other damage.
9. Replace the entire pump assembly if the parts are excessively worn or
scored.
1. Apply clean hydraulic fluid to all the parts before you assemble them.
Note: The pressure seals and back-up rings fit in the grooves machined
into the thrust plates. The body seals fit in the grooves machined in the
body faces.
2. Assemble the pump sections starting at the front cover end. Apply grease
or petroleum jelly to new section seals to hold them in position during the
gear pump assembly.
3. After the pump has been assembled, tighten the bolts and nuts by hand.
Rotate the driveshaft to check for binding. Protect the shaft if you use pliers.
4. Torque the bolts and nuts evenly to 45 N∙m (33 ft-lb) in a crossing pattern.
