B. Install cylinder head (12 pointed head) bolts
HINT:
The cylinder head bolts are tightened in three
progressive steps (steps (c), (e) and (f)).
If any bolts is broken or deformed, replace it.
(a) Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads and
under the heads of the cylinder head bolts.
(b) Install the plate washer to the cylinder head bolt.
(c) Install and uniformly tighten the eight cylinder head
bolts on one side of the cylinder head in several
passes, in the sequence shown, then do the other side
as shown.
Torque: 44 N–m (450 kgf–cm, 33 ft–Ibf)
If any one of the bolts does not meet the torque
specification, replace the bolt.
(d) Mark the front of the cylinder head bolt head with
paint.
(e) Retighten the cylinder head bolts 90S in the numerical
order shown.
(f) Retighten cylinder head bolts by an additional 90S.
(g) Check that the painted mark is now facing rearward.
