HYDRAULIC BRAKE
Place a shop towel over the piston.
Position the caliper body with the piston facing down
Do not use high
and apply small squirts of air pressure to the fluid inlet
pressure air or bring
to remove the piston.
the nozzle too close
to the inlet.
Clean the seal grooves with clean brake fluid.
Assembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
• Replace the piston seal and dust seal with new
ones.
• Apply brake fluid to the caliper piston and new piston
seal.
• Apply silicone grease to new dust seal.
• Install the piston with the opening toward the pads.
• Apply Honda Bond A, Cemedine #540 or equivalent
to the brake pad retainer mating surface.
• Apply 0.4 g (0.01 oz) of silicone grease to the boot
inside.
INSPECTION
Check the caliper cylinder for scoring, scratches or
damage.
Measure the caliper cylinder I.D.
SERVICE LIMIT: 38.24 mm (1.506 in)
Check the caliper piston for scoring, scratches or
damage.
Measure the caliper piston O.D.
SERVICE LIMIT: 38.09 mm (1.500 in)
PARKING BRAKE CALIPER (NC700XD/
SD)
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Remove the parking brake pads (page 19-19).
Disconnect the parking brake cable [1] from the brake
arm [2] and remove it from cable stay [3] of the caliper
body.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Check the parking brake lock operation (page 3-24).
