Front view of the HP StoreOnce 4500 Backup system

The HP StoreOnce 4500 Backup system consists of a head server unit with 12 x 2TB disks. The
disks in the first two slots are used for the operating system and filesystem; the remaining disks are
used for data storage. It supports connection of up to three expansion shelves (Capacity Upgrade
Kits); storage must be expanded when an additional shelf is added to the base configuration. The
expansion shelf has either 12 x 2 TB disks or 12 x 4 TB disks.

1. NIC status LED
2. System Health LED
3. Power On button/LED
4. UID button
5. Hot plug drives
Off: no network connection or network not configured
Steady green: network connected
Flashing green: network activity
Steady green: Hardware is performing correctly
Flashing amber: degraded condition
Flashing red: critical condition, such as power supply or fan failure
Steady green: Power connected, device ready to use
Flashing green: performing power on sequence
Steady amber: Device switched off or in hibernation with power connected
Steady blue: identifies the unit
Off: No power connected
Steady blue identifies the StoreOnce Backup system in the rack.
Flashing blue: remote management or firmware upgrade in progress
The drives in bays 1 and 2 contain the operating system and filesystem. The
drives in the other bays are used for data storage.
