CHECKING THE TIMING SYSTEM

•
Remove the retaining screws and then remove the fly-
wheel cover.
•
Turn the flywheel to align the case mark to the TDC
mark. Ensure that the 4V mark on the camshaft pulley
is aligned with the mark on the head, as shown in the
second figure. If the mark on the camshaft is opposite
to the mark on the head, turn the drive shaft once.
•
The TDC mark is also applied in the area between fly-
wheel fan and flywheel cover. To use this mark, re-
move the spark plug and turn the engine in the oppo-
site direction using an adjustable face wrench on the
camshaft pulley housing.
