While playing, the audio signal can be monitored by using the CD's headphone
or analog outputs.
6.1.3 Making a Live Recording
To record an analog signal directly onto the hard disk, you can use a DAT machine
in record-standby mode:

Insert a blank tape into the DAT machine. Most machines require a blank
tape to be inserted to allow the DAT machine to enter record-standby mode.
Set the DAT machine's input source to its analog inputs.
Connect the analog input source, such as a pre-amplier or microphone to the
DAT's analog input(s).
Place the DAT machine in record-standby mode. This is usually accomplished
by pressing either just the record button or both the record and pause buttons
on the DAT machine. The DAT's user manual should provide details on
placing the machine in this mode.
Run the
narecord
Start the analog input (i.e. if using a microphone, begin talking).
While recording, the audio signal can be monitored by using the DAT's head-
phone or analog outputs.
