SYNOPSIS

D
ESCRIPTION
narecseg transfers digital audio input to file via a DAT-Link interface using the NetAudio server, simi-
larly to narecord(1). In addition, it writes a file called file.seg containing information on where speech
s
egments begin and end in file. narecseg can be used to record and segment live speech onto disk, or to
transfer speech from tape to file. See narecord(1) for general information on recording. Note that fil
i
s always stored using narecord's raw file format.
OPTIONS
–a
narecseg will use the DAT-Link's infrared remote control to start the DAT machine playing
before beginning transfers to file. After the file has been transferred, the DAT machine will b
s
topped. A few seconds of silence will be recorded into the beginning of file. Note that the
environment variable must be set to the name of the remote control description for th

DAT machine. Available choices for
description has not already been installed for the DAT machine in use, it can be created using
r
ctrain(1).
–b background
Set background noise level in dB below full-scale. If this option is not used then the first 2
seconds of recording are use to establish the background level.
–i input_sourc
e
Specify the digital input source used by the DAT-Link. The input_source argument may be
AES, RCA, Fiber or Live. This argument may be abbreviated to a single letter. If this option
i
s not supplied, or the Live option is setting is used, then the three possible input sources will
be scanned for an active input.
–n segment
s
Transfer segment speech segments to file and then stop. Normally transfers stop after a single
speech segment has been acquired.
–o channel
s
Channels can be one of left, right, or stereo. For the first two only one channel of data is cap-
tured and stored in the output file. If stereo is given, then the data file will contain both chan
n
els, interleaved with the left channel first. The default is stereo.
–s file_sampling_rate
This option is used to specify the sampling rate at which the audio data should be stored in
file. If it is different from the rate at which the digital input is received, it invokes the sample
r
ate conversion software in the DAT-Link. Quality and filtering characteristics of the conver-
sion depend upon the sampling rates and whether the transfer is mono or stereo. See the
D
AT-Link User's Manual for details. The default is to record the data at the same rate it is
received.
–u host:uni
t
Use the NetAudio server on host that is connected to the DAT-Link with unit-number unit.
Otherwise, use the value of the
then use unit 0 on the local host.
