NAME
rctrain – train DAT-Link's infrared remote control
SYNOPSIS
rctrain [ –D device ] [ –u unit ] device command
rctrain [ –D device ] [ –u unit ] -l
D
ESCRIPTION
rctrain provides the training capabilities of a universal remote control. The first form of rctrain
updates the remote control description file for device with information on how to generate command o
d
evice. The user will be prompted to aim the hand-held remote control for device at the DAT-Link's
remote control sensor and press the button for command. rctrain will scan the captured sensor data and
l
ook for at least 10 repetitions of the same sequence. It will then store the sequence in the remote
description file. If no appropriate sequence is detected, an error message will be generated.
T
he second form of the command performs a loop-back test of the DAT-Link remote control training
and generation capabilities.
t
he DAT-Link main unit and aimed at the DAT-Link's remote sensor. rctrain will then verify that the
remote signals received by the sensor match those sent.
OPTIONS
–l
Perform loopback test of remote control transmitter and receiver.
–u unit Specify the DAT-Link unit on the local host to use. The default is 0 or the value of th
environment variable
–D device
Specify the device file to open to access the DAT-Link. The default is /dev/datlinknn where
nn is the DAT-Link unit number.
NOTES
During execution, it is recommended that the user hold the remote control about 8 inches (20 cm)
directly in front of the DAT-Link sensor. However, it may be necessary to try different distances to ge
r
epeatable training on some remote controls.
Although most remote controls continually repeat the remote command while a button is held down, a
few units do not. If you are not able to train a particular control, try repeatedly pressing and releasing
t
he button during training.
Remote descriptions for devices controlled by a hard-wired link must be created manually, see the
DAT-Link User's Manual for details.

BUGS
The carrier frequency of some remote controls is not properly learned by rctrain. See the DAT-Link
User's Manual for details.
NOTES
If the NetAudio server ( netaudiod(8)) is running, rctrain will temporarily suspend it's operations so
that rctrain can access the DAT-Link directly. When rctrain completes, the server will resume. As
