2.6 Software Installation

It is important to realize that there are subtle dierences in the control information
that is sent along with the audio data on these dierent connectors. The two
main formats of this information can be broadly categorized into Consumer and
Professional . The various programs used with the

optic connections, the consumer format should be used. For AES/EBU connections,
the professional format should be selected. Some DAT machines will not operate
at all unless the correct format is used.
2.6 Software Installation

the source software. You will require approximately 8 Mbytes of free space for the
installation. The following instructions assume that the sources will be placed in
/usr/local/src/datlink
