5.1.2 Listening to a File Without Recording

To listen to a le (live playback) without recording, the same instructions can be
followed with one exception | instead of starting the tape recording, put the DAT
machine into record-standby mode. This is usually accomplished by pressing either
just the record button or both the record and pause buttons on the DAT machine.
The DAT's user manual should provide details on placing the machine in this mode.
While the DAT is in record-standby mode, the digital audio provided by the
Link
will be converted to its analog form by the DAT machine allowing you to listen
to the output using the DAT's analog or headphone outputs.
5.2 Running the
The
program allows you to transfer audio data from a disk le to the
naplay
Link
for either listening or recording. It has numerous options, but in its simplest
form you may simply type:
naplay file
le
where
is the name of a le containing the audio data. In this form,
identi es the type of the le using some heuristics and interprets any header present

stored as 16 bit signed integers. The entire le will be played once.
