Front panel LED board
Power distribution board
Each node board has its own set of three 4-cm high-performance fans (for a total of six in the
chassis) to provide the cooling for the SGI Altix XE320. The fan speed can be controlled by a
setting in BIOS. Refer to Chapter 6, "BIOS Settings" for more information.
If a fan fails, the remaining fans ramp up to full speed and the overheat/fan fail LED on the control
panel blinks on and off. Replace any failed fan at your earliest convenience with a replacement
fan from SGI (the system can continue to run with a failed fan). Remove the top chassis cover
while the system is still running to determine which of the fans has failed. Then, power down the
system and remove the power cord before replacing a fan.
Note: Drives can be removed during operation (hot swapped) only if you are running an operating
system that supports RAID.
