Troubleshooting
Improving Copy Quality
Use the instructions below if you are experiencing poor copy quality.

Image is too dark

Possible Cause
• The exposure level for the Auto
Exposure mode
is set at "Darker."
• The exposure level for the
Manual Exposure mode is set at
"Darker."
Possible Cause
• The Original Glass is dirty.
• The Original Pad or Document
Feed Belt is dirty.
• The original is very thin or highly
transparent.
•The original is 2-sided.
Possible Cause
The Corona Units are dirty.
Corrective Action
• Change the setting of "Auto
Exposure Level" in the Key
Operator function. p. 85
Or, cancel the Auto Exposure
mode and select Manual Exposure
to adjust the exposure level to
obtain a lighter image.

• Touch [Lighter] as necessary to
obtain a lighter image. p. 40
Corrective Action
•Wipe the Original Glass clean with
a soft dry cloth. p. 140
• Wipe the Original Pad or
Document Feed Belt clean with a
soft cloth dampened with mild
detergent. pp. 140, 141
• Place a blank sheet of paper
over the original. p. 29
• The information on the back side
of a 2-sided, thin original may be
slightly reproduced on the copy.
Set the copier into the Manual
Exposure mode and, using the
[Lighter] key, make the exposure
level lighter. p. 40
Corrective Action
Using the Corona Unit
Cleaning Levers, clean the
Corona Units.
