Figure 1- D A -6 Compressor, V-Groove Pulley
and Standard Mounting
The Harrison DA-6 com pressor is a fixed displacem ent
axial piston pump, with three double-ended pistons ac
tuated by an axial (swash) plaste shaft assem bly (figure
1). The main parts are the front and rear cylinder, the
shaft and axial swash plate, piston group, and valve
mechanisms. The cylinders and heads provide an integral
external shell.
The piston group of the com pressor will not be serv
iced. If piston, bearing, ball shoe, shaft and axial plate, or
cylinder repair is needed, replace the internal cylinder as
sembly. All clutch parts, valve mechanisms, and head as
sem blies are serviced, plus seals and gaskets.
R efrigerant oil, dispersed in the refrigerant vapor, lubri
cates the system.
The front head is shown with three integral m ounting
flange ears (figure 2). These ears have 19 mm flats cast to
provide for a wrench to be used as a prying means when
tensioning the com pressor drive belt.

Keep dirt or foreign m aterial from getting on or into the
com pressor parts and system. Keep the work area and
tools clean.
Keep the parts clean at all times. Clean assembled
parts with Trichloroethane, naphtha, Stoddard solvent,
kerosene or equivalent solvent and dried with dry air. Use
only lint free cloths to wipe parts.
Drain and measure the refrigerant oil. Add new 525 vis
cosity refrigerant oil to the compressor. Refer to " S pecifi
cations."
IDENTIFICATION
An iden tificatio n label attached to the com pressor
provides the name of the manufacturer, model number
and build code. If the label is removed or becomes
dislodged during service operation, reattach it using an
adhisive sealant such as Loctite 312 or equivalent.
