be extrem ely careful
not to score the
housing bore.
2. U sine screw driver,
pry seal from bore.

housing bearing is
fully installed.
Install Pitm an shaft bearing.

1. Install parts as shown.

1. Tighten w orm bearing adjuster until it bottom s then
loosen o n e-qu arte r turn.
2. C arefully turn the w orm shaft all the w ay to end of travel
then turn back on e-ha lf turn.
3. Tighten adjuster plug until torque w rench reads 0.6
to 1.0 N.m (5 to 8 in-lbs).
4. Tighten locknut using punch against edge of slot.

A. Back off preload
adjuster until it stops,
then turn it in one full
turn.
W ith gear at center
of travel, check torque
to turn stub shaft,
(reading # 1 )
11/16" socket - D ue to
tolerances, som e sockets
require a w rapping of
card stock around the
serrations.
B. Turn adjuster in until
torque to turn stub shaft
is 0.5 to 1.2 N*m (4 to
10 in-lbs) m ore than
reading # 1 .
Torque adjuster lock
nut to 34 N*m (25 ft-lbs).
P revent adjuster screw
from turning while
torqueing lock nut.
