FLYWHEEL REMOVAL

1. Bolts.
2. Retainer (automatic transm isison only).
3. Flywheel.

CRANKSHAFT REMOVAL

• Check the main bearing clearance before removing
the crankshaft. Refer to " C rankshaft and Main
Bearing Installation" later in this section.
• The main bearings and rear oil seal can be replaced
w ithout removing the crankshaft as outlined later in
this section.
1. Bolts (85).
2. Main bearing caps (86).
3. Crankshaft from the cylinder block.
• Lift the crankshaft straight up, taking care to
avoid damage to the crankshaft journals and
thrust flange surfaces.

Tool Required:
J 8080, Main Bearing R em over/Installer
1. Main bearing caps.
• C heck the main bearing caps for location
markings. Mark the caps if necessary. The
caps m ust be re tu rn e d to th e ir o rig in a l
locations during assembly.
2. Lower main bearing inserts from the main bearing
caps.
3. Upper main bearing inserts.
• Insert J 8080 into the cra n ksh a ft oil hole
(figure 17).
• Rotate the crankshaft
out of the block.
