STARTING

the vehicle gradually and use the
greatest care.
Do not place any objects on the inside
o f t h e f r o n t f a i r i n g ( b e t w e e n t h e
handlebar and the dashboard), or they
might hinder handlebar rotation and
hide the dashboard from view.
NOTE
Before starting the engine,
carefully read section "Safe Riding", see
page 5 (SAFE RIDING).

Exhaust emissions contain carbon
oxide, which is a poisonous gas and
d e l i v e r s
extremely harmful if inhaled.
Never operate the engine indoor. Make
sure the area is well ventilated before
starting the engine.
Failure to heed these warnings may
lead to loss of conscience or even
death.
NOTE
With the side stand down, the
engine can only be started if the gearbox is
in neutral. If you try to engage a gear with
the stand down, the engine will stop.

With the side stand up, the engine can be
started either in neutral or with a gear
engaged while keeping the clutch lever
pulled in.
Sit astride the vehicle, see page 49
(GETTING ON AND OFF THE VEHICLE).
Make sure the stand is fully up.
Make sure the dimmer switch (1) is in
position "

Set the engine kill switch (2) to "
Turn the key (3) to set the ignition switch
to position " ".
When you turn the key:
- All digits of the multifunction display come
on for 3 seconds.
- All dashboard warning lights (4) and the
backlighting come on for 3 seconds.
- The odometer pointer (5) points the last
red line threshold setting for 3 seconds
and then returns to idle rpm.
- During normal operation, all instruments
will give the current reading.
CAUTION
When the low fuel light " " (6) comes
on, refuel as soon as possible. See
page 34 (FUEL).
