FRONT BRAKE CALLIPERS

WARNING
A dirty disk will soil the pads, leading to
loss of braking efficiency. Dirty pads
must be replaced, whereas dirty disks
may be cleaned with a high-quality
degreaser.
CAUTION
Use great care during removal and
refitting procedures to avoid damaging
the brake lines, brake disks and brake
pads.
NOTE
To remove the front br ake
callipers, it is necessary to use the suitable
front
and rear
wheel stands.

REMOVAL
Place the vehicle on the front wheel
stand, see page 71 (PLACING THE
VEHICLE ON THE FRONT WHEEL
STAND
).
CAUTION
Make sure that the vehicle is stable.
Rotate the wheel manually. Set it so that
the brake calliper can be reached
through the space between two rim
spokes.
Have someone keep the handlebar
steady in the direction of travel, with the
steering locked.
Torque wrench setting for the brake
calliper bolts (1): 50 Nm (5 kgm).
Unscrew and remove the two brake
calliper bolts (1).
CAUTION
Do not operate the brake lever when the
callipers are not in place, or the pistons
might fall out leading to brake fluid
spillage.
In the event of brake fluid spillage,
contact your
Official dealer to

have the vehicle serviced properly.
Withdraw the brake calliper (2) from
the disk, leaving it attached to the hose
(3).
Remove the other brake calliper as
follows:
Repeat the operations marked with ★.
REASSEMBLY
CAUTION
Proceed with care to avoid damage to
the brake pads.
Locate the brake calliper (2) to the disk
so as to align the calliper mounting holes
and the carrier holes.
WARNING
Refit the brake calliper using two new
bolts (1) of the same type as those fitted
originally.
Fit the two calliper mounting bolts (1)
and tighten.
Torque wrench setting for the calliper
mounting bolts: 50 Nm (5 kgm).
Refit the other brake calliper as follows:
Repeat the operations marked with ★.
Remove the front wheel stand

CAUTION
After reassembly, work the front brake
lever repeatedly and check for proper
operation of the brake.
