Copying is handled through the newly-
designed 12 inch touch screen monitor.
Unlike front office products, the monitor is
positioned as a separate unit attached to
the device by an adjustable stand. (see
picture to right).
The adjustable stand provides greater
flexibility than some competing units and is
better suited to wheelchair users which will
be treated favorably by users needing to
comply with US disability access act
Section 508.
One irritating factor in the design of the
monitor is the positioning of the on/off
button, which is located to the right side of
the monitor. On several occasions during
testing, the BERTL analyst inadvertently
switched off the entire unit and then had to
wait for the device to restart and warm up
again. On one occasion the action resulted
in a paper jam which took several minutes to
remove, a user and device productivity issue
that will not be looked upon favorably. We
would suggest a plastic protection flap or
some other means of preventing accidental
power downs would be of benefit.
The standard reversing document feeder
has a capacity of 100 sheets and is able to
scan at up to 103 originals per
minute, making it the fastest
document scanner in its class.
The scanner is a top feeder which
means that users must wait until the
final page of a set has been
scanned before additional pages
can be added to the stack. This is a
less productive solution than a
competing unit which has a bottom
feeding scanner which allows users,
scanning large document above the
capacity of the scanner to add
pages at any time, not just when the
document feeder is empty.
