The main copy control screen took a while to
master, with some features hidden deep
within several sub menus. While this may be
an irritation to a new user it should be
remembered that this device is destined to
be used by experienced trained operators
who will come to know the menu system
very well and may prefer the larger icons
that the multiple level menu systems allows
versus the smaller icons as found on
competing devices which, while alleviating
certain menu levels may create more job
production errors due to selection errors.
The main menu screen is divided up into
seven main sections.

Original Settings

This area holds the options relating to the
scanning process required to get the
originals into the memory of the device.
Features include direction of originals, mixed
size originals, z-fold originals, single feed
originals, non-standard size originals and job
build— which Océ calls Memory
scan.
Z-fold is a useful function when copying
brochures and other folded documents.
Traditional document feeders have sensors
along the paper feed tray unit that detects
the leading edge of the paper. In the case of
a z-folded document, the original may be

raised off the surface of the paper feed tray
which could confuse the document feeder
into thinking that the paper is smaller than it
actually is, which can create paper jamming
issues. The z-fold feature alleviates this
potential issue.
Memory scan allows operators to scan
pages into memory via several sessions at
the device. This is most commonly used for
copying documents larger than the 100-
sheet capacity of the document feeder, or
allowing for documents comprising of both
document feeder cut sheet pages and pages
that must be scanned from the glass platen.
Such jobs include the reproduction of
discovery documents in a legal CRD where
cut sheet pages are combined with copies
directly out of legal case law books, case
photographs and other evidence that cannot
be fed through the document feeder.

Special Image

This function allows operators to specify the
image scan settings to apply in order to
capture the best possible copy of the data
into the memory of the device. Options
include contrast adjustment, text, text/photo,
photo and low contrast modes.
