Within the image edit mode users have
access to features relating to the
manipulation of the job itself. Features
include: Area erase, negative/positive, mirror
image, repeat, frame/fold erase, image
centering, image repeat, image shift and
stamp/overlay.
While this selection of image editing feature
is fairly standard on digital MFPs the stamp/
overlay feature merits special mention,
containing features that separate it from the
competition.
Within the stamp/overlay feature, operators
are provided with a variety of ways in which
they can incorporate more image data onto
the output pages.
In the case of the stamp and watermark
feature, text is added to the page, while in
overlay mode the function adds an entire
image to the document pages.
The difference between stamp and
watermark is that the watermark sits over the
top of the document text in a transparent
format, allowing both to be read, while the
stamp mode will render any text positioned
in the same location as the stamp illegible.

Within both the stamp and watermark
feature, operators have the ability to
program a set numbering feature.
This feature associates a unique number to
each copied set. This is a valuable tracking
mechanism since it can be used to trace
leaks of confidential documents back to an
individual.
For example, a pharmaceutical firm has a
meeting to report on the progress of a test
drug. Each member of the meeting is given a
copy of the progress report which they have
to sign for against the numbered set they
were provided with. If the contents of the
report are later found to have been provided
to a rival pharmaceutical firm the leaked
document can be traced back to the original
signatory.
This is a powerful application feature in
environments where confidential documents
are distributed on a frequent basis.
